Though CCP has attempted to fix War Dec mechanics over the years, unfortunately its still often used as little more then a griefing mechanic. Eve University has had first hand experience with many a grief war over the years, trying a variety of methods to deal with them. With no way for a defender to push for the end of a war, and the costs still remarkably low, a war can be kept up indefinitely. For many non-PvP focused corps, this often means a near shut down of regular activities.
After dealing with a number of these wars, the Uni has chosen to ignore most of these wars, letting the enemy combatants come as they may. Most students continue with their day to day activities without hassle. However, we've also seen that some of our members have chosen to drop corp, as many new players as well as industrial minded players have seen the constant wars as a needless interruption on their gameplay. As decing corps have no reason to drop wars nor any need to, we've done our best to reach as many new players as possible.
That being said, the Uni has decided a new approach to this problem. Why be forced into PvP on other groups terms? The Red Federation and Blue Alliances eternal war has led to a number of well skilled PvP pilots, and our fights with them have always been educational. After the recent loss of our POS, we considered what steps we could take to avoid similar incidents in the future. We came to the decision that rather then have to face mindless, silly PvP when griefers dec us, we should get more PvP experience... by joining the RvB war!
I'm happy to announce that Eve University will be joining the RvB eternal war as the "Green" faction, changing the RvB war to the RGB war. We'll be packing up our logistics over the next few weeks to make the move to a system close by RvB so that our pilots can hop out and find a fight whenever they want. RvB has agreed to keep certain high sec systems as neutral systems so we can continue to teach classes not pertaining to PvP, but we will certainly shift our focus a bit to match our new situation. To avoid letting grief wars take over our new scheme, Red Federation and Blue Alliance have both agreed to dec any organizations who war dec us, hopefully encouraging those groups to find other targets.
There are still a few details to iron out with RvB, but Eve University looks forward to our more proactive approach to war decs. |
